Welcome to the arcade we are stepping into 2025. The gaming world is already thrilled with the long awaited release of a good, chaotic heroic shooter. Excitement, love, and care have also been put into the mix. I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on a game that has reignited my love for competitive play. I played Overwatch for years. Ultimately, I left it behind due to the many issues with both the game and Blizzard Activision. I was in search of something fresh. I needed something that felt like the exciting start of a new chapter. Enter Marvel Rivals.

This game offers everything I’ve been longing for. It provides a fun, engaging experience with a lovely art style. It also includes some of my favorite Marvel characters. There are also ones I didn’t expect to love, like Cloak and Dagger and Iron Fist. While it’s not perfect or completely original, some characters have abilities familiar to Overwatch. Still, Marvel Rivals brings a refreshing energy. I’ve missed this in recent gaming titles. I’m excited to see how it evolves.
Pros:

- Familiar Characters With a Special Team-up move
Marvel Rivals lets you dive into the action. The Partner up system encourages teamwork with your fellow heroes or villains (I’m not judging). It is a well-thought-out mechanic. This system enhances the roles everyone can choose. Players can change the tides of battle with only 2 or 3 characters. It features some of the most iconic heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. Whether you’re a fan of Spider-Man or Iron Man, there’s a roster for you. Even fans of more obscure characters will find what they’re looking for. Every match feels like a new multi-verse comic book adventure. - Stunning Art Style
The visual design of Marvel Rivals is simply gorgeous. The character designs are eye-catching. The overall aesthetic pulls you into the Marvel Universe. It feels both fresh and nostalgic. - Free-to-Play
One of the best aspects of this game is that it’s free to play! You don’t need to spend a penny to enjoy all the core gameplay features. It’s easy for anyone looking to dive in without the barrier of entry. However, free entry attracts many hackers. They cheat their way into games using different accounts. - Reasonable Battle Pass
For those who enjoy extra rewards and content, the battle pass is fair and well-designed. Best of all, it is less of a grind. I finished it easily in only 20 games. It took me 5-15 hours depending on whether you bought the deluxe version of the BP. It provides great value without feeling too grindy. It also doesn’t feel like a forced spend. This is a breath of fresh air in today’s gaming economy.
Cons:

- Competitive Play Starts at the Bottom
Some other games provide placement matches to help gauge your rank. Marvel Rivals does not offer this buffer. It throws you right into the competitive pool. This can feel jarring at times, especially if you’re trying to adjust to the competitive meta. Upon reaching gold, my only motivation was for the moonkight golden skin. I do not want to continue in competitive play. Working together with your team is crucial. If your team does not cooperate well, leading to teammates to act toxic and put the blame on each other. it can severely punish your rank. I recommend finding a group. - Memory Leaks
The game does have some technical issues, most notably memory leaks that can cause crashes or slowdowns during longer play sessions. Hopefully, the developers address this in future updates to smooth out the experience. - Cosmetics Are Very Pricey
Like many free-to-play titles, Marvel Rivals offers a range of cosmetic items for purchase. However, some of these items are expensive. This might discourage players who want to customize their characters without breaking the bank. - Poor Optimization
Marvel Rivals doesn’t run as smoothly as it could on lower-end systems. While it’s not a dealbreaker, the optimization could definitely use some work to make it accessible to a wider range of players. Beware of Dr. Strange portal ability for that is also breaking fps as if that was in the ability itself for everyone nearby.
Gameplay Experience:
(Yes these are my videos from all the fun I had , plan to upload more soon)
Despite the cons, the core of Marvel Rivals is incredibly fun. The fast-paced action, merged with strategic team-based play, leads to a thrilling experience every time you jump into a match. The character abilities feel distinct, with strengths and weaknesses that add layers of strategy to each meeting. That said, some characters seem overpowered. Developers can apply balance tweaks to ensure a fairer playing field for everyone.
One area that can use a lot of improvement, though, is the map variety. Right now, players rotate between just three maps, which can get repetitive after a while. Introducing new environments would keep things feeling fresh and exciting, giving players more to look forward to. Using the Marvel license can streamline the selection process. Players could easily choose from various iconic battles. Options range from the Battle of New York in the first Avengers film to the final battle against Thanos.
(I can’t wait for Thanos/Blade/Daredevil to be playable soon.)
Final Thoughts:
Overall, Marvel Rivals is a highly enjoyable experience that shows a lot of potential. There are a few issues to iron out, like memory leaks and optimization. It’s clear that the developers are aiming to create something special. This game could easily become one of my go-to titles in 2025. It just needs a bit more variety in maps and some balance adjustments.

For now, I’m rating Marvel Rivals a solid 9/10. It’s fun, engaging, and offers a lot of promise for the future. Here’s hoping it continues to grow and refine itself in the coming months. If you’re a Marvel fan, you will find this game intriguing. It can be the one you’ve been waiting for!
Happy New Year, and happy gaming!
