Steam Controversy Over another New Game Demo That Gives You A Virus Once Installed.

On March 20, 2025, Steam pulled a game titled Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution (I will not provide link to website because even there the game is downloadable and has a virus) off its platform after users uncovered malicious software hidden in the demo, which was accessible via the game’s official site and its Steam listing. This wasn’t a simple bug it was a cunning piece of malware that pretended to be a Unity game, tricked people into giving it full control of their systems, snatched browser login details, spied on internet activity, and planted itself to launch every time the device booted up. It was a crafty and dangerous invader, built to swipe private info and stick around unnoticed.

A person claiming to be the game’s creator, “AndrewPillDev” from Sierra Six Studios, took to Reddit to argue they’d been framed. They explained that they hadn’t locked down the website’s domain name yet, just tossed it onto Steam as a temporary link. Their story was that someone else swooped in, claimed the domain, and stuck the toxic demo online. They only caught wind of the mess through Polish news reports, noted English wasn’t their strong suit, and took it up to rookie errors by their tiny crew.

It’s not far from the previous malware attack from a game called piratefi that was banned from ever coming back to steam with hidden malware attacks.

The writer of the article wasn’t sold either way. If the studio was unaware, it struck them as a wildly elaborate con for a game hardly anyone knew about. But if the tale was accurate , it’d mean some shadowy figure launched a bizarrely detailed strike against a nobody developer. Both options seemed out of reach.

The big takeaways? Players should think twice before clicking links outside Steam, even ones tied to game pages, and folks making games need to nab their website names before shouting them out to the world.

This retelling keeps the core facts intact but swaps out the original wording for my own, aiming for a fresh yet clear take on the story.
